The Brief
The Entrance to Narrabeen Lagoon continually silts up, blocking natural flow of water causing flooding damaging local infrastructure and residential housing.
To resolve this Northern Beaches Council engaged Nathan Mackie the All Stake Supply Territory Manager and local contractors to determine the best methods and products required to help reduce the occurrence of Narrabeen Lagoon entrance silting up.
The Solution
A two-pronged approach was implemented. Dredging of sand in key locations on the eastern and western side of Ocean Street Bridge provided removal of unwanted silt / sand. Coupled with bank stabilisation.
Bank Stabilisation was achieved through using All Stake Supply range of Revegetation and Erosion control products. Natural and biodegradable, coir logs, coir matting hessian panels and timbers stakes provide wonderful protection to native grasses and shrubs, without adding to waste or landfill.
Bank Stabilisation occurred quickly with the establishment of native grasses and shrubs. The young plants were protected by rows of coir logs which prevented sand migration covering the plants whilst also retaining moisture. The natural erosion control products provided a local microclimate for the grasses and shrubs to establish themselves quickly. Fast tracking the council’s goal of bank stabilisation.
