Product Spotlight: A new weave of matting makes it’s mark
Posted date: 31 Aug 2010
Did you know Coir comes from the Tamil word kayarum meaning 'to be twisted'? As a 100% biodegradable product that helps to deflect the attention of snails and can even fight off soil based pathogns, coir in its many forms has always been popular with professionals in our industry.
All Stake Supply now offer it in the form of matting. Commonly used as the base product for rope production, coir is well known for its tensile strength and ability to withstand the elements. This matting is no different.
When used with vegetation, it is mechanically strong enough to hold slopes together even following heavy rain. It acts as a store for excess water, retaining humidity which helps prevent topsoil from drying out on newly planted sites. Coir matting helps to reduce soil erosion and as a degradable organic, it also promotes the growth of new plants.

With optimal seasonal conditions, coir matting can last for up to five years, more than enough time for
vegetation to become well established. It offers great value for money and can be used as an alternate to jute.
